The cell cycle is regulated by a circular network: a transcriptional activator from one stage also stimulates transcriptional activators in the next stage. Transcription factors that regulate cyclin genes during each phase of the cell cycle also regulate genes encoding key components involved in transitioning to the next stage of the cycle.
